Sleeps up to 12 people.

Address: La Germainiere, 50450 Guehebert, Manche, Normandy (Map »)

This lovingly restored 6 bedroom 3 bathroom farmhouse is nestled at the end of a private half-mile driveway surrounded by orchards and quiet fields in the Normandy countryside.

There is an enormous amount of character in this superb 300 year old farmhouse with old beams, massive stone walls and a huge Normandy fireplace. The 6 large bedrooms are each individually decorated in traditional Norman style and the high beamed ceilings and tiled floors maintain a lovely historical feel to the property.

The three storey house is beautifully furnished and the fully equipped modern kitchen and outdoor dining area overlooking the tree-fringed valley make this a perfect base to explore the many attractions of Normandy.

La Germainiere is also well situated to explore the many historical World War 2 sites and villages that are scattered throughout the Normandy countryside.

La Germainiere is situated close to the hamlets of Guehebert and Grimesnil in the Manche department of Normandy.

The village of Gavray (population 1400) is a few minutes drive away where you can find traditional shops, boulangerie, patisserie and restaurants and a 10 minute walk from the house is the village of Grismenil where the bar/restaurant, L'Etang, does great food.

The larger villages of Coutances with its magnificent cathedral and Villedieu les Poeles are 15 and 20 minutes away respectively and both are of World War 2 historical significance with major battles being fought there.

The house is well located for a visit to the pretty and lively town of Avranches (35 minutes) and the hugely popular village of Le Mont Saint Michel (45 minutes). Mont St Michel is a fascinating must see site when visiting the Manche region of Normandy.

Bayeux, with its famous tapestry, is one hour away and the Normandy D-Day beaches are a further 15 minutes on from Bayeux. A must see for any visitor to the Bayeux area are the American, British and German War cemeteries, located in the villages along the coast, as well as the landing beaches of Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, Sword and the memorial at Pointe du Hoc.

The city of Caen (population 110,000) is the largest town in the region. It is a charming place to visit with its historic buildings, parks, gardens and excellent shopping. It is just over an hour from Le Germainiere.

Caen airport and TGV fast train services to Paris are approximately one hour from the house. Rennes airport is a one and a half hour drive and has flights throughout France.
